The Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CIUB) was established on November 22, 2013 in Bucharest, Romania. The Romanian cooperation partner is the University of Bucharest (UB) and the Chinese cooperation partner is China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). On 19 March 2013, the Confucius Institute Headquarters signed an agreement with the UB on cooperation of the establishment of the CIBU. On May 20, 2021, CUPL and the UB signed an agreement on cooperation of the construction of CIUB. The co-directors are in charge of CIUB under the leadership of the Board of directors of CIUB.
CIUB has 18 staffs: a Chinese director, a Romanian director, 5 Chinese teachers, a Romanian teacher, 6 Chinese teacher volunteers, 5 overseas Chinese teacher volunteers, a Romanian administrative staff and a secretary.
Over the years, CIUB is mainly committed to the teaching of Chinese with gradual expansion of its teaching scales. There are four Confucius Classrooms: Confucius Classroom at Colegiul National Ferdinand I in Bacau, Confucius Classroom at A. D. Xenopol Economic College in Bucharest, Confucius Classroom at EuroEd in Iasi, Confucius Classroom at “Elena Cuza” National College in Craiova and 13 Chinese language teaching sites in Bucharest and other cities,such as Bacau, Galați and Iasi.
In 2017, CIUB successfully promoted the integration of Chinese course into Romanian National Education System, making Chinese a credit course in secondary and high schools.
