The Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CIUB) was established on November 22, 2013 in Bucharest, Romania. The Romanian cooperation partner is the University of Bucharest (UB) and the Chinese cooperation partner is China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). On 19 March 2013, the Confucius Institute Headquarters signed an agreement with the UB on cooperation of the establishment of the CIBU. On May 20, 2021, CUPL and the UB signed an agreement on cooperation of the construction of CIUB. The co-directors are in charge of CIUB under the leadership of the Board of directors of CIUB. CIUB has 18 staffs: a Chinese director, a Romanian director, 5 Chinese teachers, a Romanian teacher, 6 Chinese teacher volunteers, 5 overseas Chinese teacher volunteers, a Romanian administrative staff and a secretary. Over the years, CIUB is mainly committed to the teaching of Chinese with gradual expansion of its teaching scales. There are four Confucius Classrooms: Confucius Classroom at Colegiul National Ferdinand I in Bacau, Confucius Classroom at A. D. Xenopol Economic College in Bucharest, Confucius Classroom at EuroEd in Iasi, Confucius Classroom at “Elena Cuza” National College in Craiova and 13 Chinese language teaching sites in Bucharest and other cities,such as Bacau, Galați and Iasi. In 2017, CIUB successfully promoted the integration of Chinese course into Romanian National Education System, making Chinese a credit course in secondary and high schools.

Distinctive and Key Programs

      The 2020 International Chinese Education Academic Research of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation
      Carried out three international Chinese education projects in 2020: the key project "Research and Development of Chinese Teaching Materials in Romanian Secondary Schools (Phase I)", the commissioned project "Research on the Localization of Chinese Education in Romania" and the youth project "Research on the Basic Situation of International Chinese Education in Romania"). He has published a book, published 25 academic papers, translated and published documents such as the Foreign Language Teaching Policy of the Ministry of Education of the Romanian Republic of China.
        Teacher Training
        Every year, the Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest conducts pre-job training for newly arrived Chinese teachers and volunteer teachers, organizes Chinese teachers and volunteers to help each other, holds teaching seminars, teaching observations, monthly teaching reflections, teaching cases, exchanges teaching experience with each other, shares effective teaching methods, timely discovers problems, solves problems, and ensures teaching effectiveness and quality.
          Holding Academic Seminars
          The Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest attaches great importance to academic research, actively promotes academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Romania, and has successively held Forums on Confucianism, Philosophy, Law and Literature between China and Romania, which has built a good academic platform for Chinese and Romanian scholars. In particular, the 2021 "Romanian Chinese Education Localization Construction Academic Seminar", which is the first seminar on the localization of Chinese education in Romania, covers the current situation of Chinese education in Romania and the case study of Chinese teaching in various institutions, and conducts in-depth discussions on the topics of teachers, teaching materials, teaching methods and other aspects of Chinese education in Romania, achieving the purpose of mutual learning and reference, and promoting the localization of Chinese education in Romania, which is of far-reaching significance for the development of Chinese education in Romania.
