On October 13, 2025, the Confucius Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology at National University of Lesotho held a grand opening ceremony for the Chinese language training for university staff at the Netherlands Hall. The ceremony was attended by Dr. M. Ntakatsane, Local Director of the Confucius Institute; Dr. Meng Fanxing, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute; members of the teaching team, and the staff joining the training from various departments of the university.

In his address, Dr. Meng Fanxing introduced the background, development, and significance of the Confucius Institute, emphasizing its vital role in promoting educational and cultural exchanges between China and Lesotho. He noted that the Confucius Institute is not only a place for learning the Chinese language but also a platform for fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange between the two countries. The Confucius Institute will continue to provide high-quality language instruction and diverse cultural experiences for the university's faculty and students, helping them better understand China and use the Chinese language effectively.

The teaching team presented the course structure and curriculum design for the training. In addition, a questionnaire survey was conducted to learn about participants' motivations, interests, and needs in learning Chinese, so as to further improve teaching approaches and enhance instructional quality.

The successful launch of the Chinese language training for university staff marks another solid step forward for the Confucius Institute in promoting Chinese language education and enriching the cultural diversity on campus. Looking ahead, the Confucius Institute will continue to uphold the concept of "language as a bridge and culture as a link," building more platforms for communication and learning, and further deepening the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Lesotho.
