Roma, Lesotho – September 30, 2025 — The Confucius Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology at National University of Lesotho (NUL) officially launched its Chinese language classes with a grand opening ceremony on campus. The event brought together more than 400 participants, including Dr. M. Ntakatsane, Local Director; Dr. Meng Fanxing, Chinese Director; Confucius Institute faculty; volunteers; and all enrolled students.

In his keynote speech, Dr. Meng Fanxing outlined the background, mission, and overall development of the Confucius Institute, emphasizing its vital role in advancing educational and cultural exchanges between China and Lesotho. He highlighted that the establishment of the Confucius Institute is not only a milestone in bilateral educational cooperation, but also a bridge for Lesotho's youth to connect with the wider world.

Dr. M. Ntakatsane underscored the importance of language learning, noting that proficiency in Chinese will create greater opportunities for students' academic and professional growth. He also introduced the course selection system and related regulations, while encouraging students to actively engage in events such as the HSK Chinese Proficiency Test and the "Chinese Bridge" competition to enhance their language skills and cross-cultural communication abilities. Dr. M. Ntakatsane further announced that NUL will launch the Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language program in 2026, offering students a more systematic and comprehensive pathway to language study.

The ceremony's success marked a new chapter in the development of Chinese language education at NUL. Moving forward, the Confucius Institute will continue to strengthen Sino–Lesotho educational cooperation, promote both language learning and cultural exchange, and nurture more young talents who understand China and are passionate about the Chinese language, contributing to the lasting friendship between the two countries.
