The Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka (CI at DU), jointly established by Yunnan University and University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, was officially started operation in May, 2016. It is located in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. On October 14, 2016, it was uncoiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
With the help of the CI at DU, the University of Dhaka set up the first Chinese undergraduate program in Bangladesh in 2016. To strengthen the academic and cultural exchanges between the two universities, the China-Bangladesh Research Center and the China-Bangladesh Culture and Art Exchange Center were established. Since then, the two universities have held a series of China-Bangladesh Forums, Seminars and cultural and art exchange activities. The Confucius Institute has also launched a number of programs such as Chinese Culture Month, Confucius Institute Forum, China-Bangladesh Cultural and Art Exchange Festival and China-Bangladesh Language and Culture Exchange Camp.
The CI at DU is committed to promoting the development of International Chinese Language Education in Bangladesh. It offers Chinese language courses, HSK exam tutoring and cultural courses for Bangladeshi Chinese learners at different levels. It also offers undergraduate credit courses for the Chinese Language Department and the Faculty of Business Studies of DU. So far, more than 7,000 students have studied at CI at DU.
