On May 29, 2022, the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Language Competition for secondary school students was successfully held, organized by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and hosted by Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology. The competition was held online,Kimi Coetzee, Erika Dhatemwa and Hana Kagga from The Diocesan School for Girls, a teaching site of the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University, participated in the competition. Kimi won the Second Prize,Erika Dhatemwa and Hana Kagga won an Outstanding Award.

From June 13 to June 14, 2022, the 21st Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in South Africa and South Sfrica"Huawei•Chinese Bridge" College Students Chinese Proficiency Competition final was successfully held, hosted by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Johannesburg. Due to the epidemic, the "Chinese Bridge" competition was held online. Zhuochen Wang, a Chinese language student from Confucius Institute of Rhodes University, participated in this competition. Zhuochen Wang won the second prize after her outstanding performance in the written test, speech and Chinese talent show.

The teachers of the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University congratulated all the students who participated in the "Chinese Bridge" competition and said that they had done their best in the competition. The teachers of the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University said that participating in the "Chinese Bridge" competition is a very good opportunity for students to improve their Chinese language skills and to learn more about Chinese culture, and they hope that more and more students will apply for the "Chinese Bridge" competition in the future.

The contestants said that they thought the competition was difficult before they took part in it, and they even worried that they would not perform well. After the competition, they all said they were very happy to participate in "Chinese Bridge" and they were very fortunated to learn Chinese talents, and they showed their talents to their teachers. Zhuochen Wang said that she was glad to participate in the "Chinese Bridge" competition, because we not only learned a lot about Chinese language, but also felt the charm of Chinese culture such as music, dance and calligraphy.

The participants of the "Chinese Bridge" competition showed different Chinese talents, such as singing the classic song "Red Mountain Fruit", playing the flute "White Suzhen under Qingcheng Mountain", dancing a solo in Xinjiang Uyghur dance and writing the seal script "One Family One World".

The participants, Zhuochen Wang, Kimi Coetzee, Erika Dhatemwa and Hana Kagga, expressed their gratitude to the teachers of Confucius Institute for their guidance and would like to participate in the competition next time if they have the chance.
