              Professional Skills+Chinese Courses
With the fulfilling of the One Belt and One Road Strategy, more and more Chinese enterprises come to Kenya, which speed up the process of Kenya’s industrialization. In 2017, the construction of the two industrial areas is kicked off under the help of Chinese companies and Mombasa-Nairobi SGR railway opened in June. The talented with a certain skill and a certain proficiency in Chinese is badly needed. In order to meet the need of industrialization in Kenya, CIUON plans to introduce Chinese to vocational and professional education, and train the students with “Professional Skills+Chinese”. It has started Chinese courses in Thika Technical College and Africana College of Professionals and plans to have further collaboration with the professional colleges. Meanwhile, CIUON cooperates with the enterprises and organizes talks between the colleges and the enterprises, which will help both the enterprises and the students. The above two colleges belong to African Professional Education Association, and the principal of Africana College of Professionals, Susan, is one of the board member. In one of the activities she said: “Chinese culture brings the new idea for Kenya to develop, which is what we really need.” She is doing her best to influence the other members in the association to make Chinese one of the selective courses in professional education.
