Date of
Establishment:
Confucius Institute at The University of the South Pacific (CI-USP) was established between Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and The University of the South Pacific (USP).
CI-USP became fully operational in 2012. The headquarter is located at Suva, Fiji. In March 2014, due to the high demand for Chinese language teaching in the western part of Fiji, CI-USP opened a Teaching Point at USP’s Lautoka Campus, which has been approved to upgrade into Confucius Classroom in August, 2019. In 2014 a Confucius Classroom was established at the Emalus Campus in Vanuatu. Another Confucius Classroom was established in the Cook Islands Campus later on.
Therefor, CI-USP has its own characteristic of teaching Chinese in four campuses in three countries. It has become a major driver of promoting Chinese language and culture in the Pacific region. CI-USP received a Model Confucius Institute Award in 2016; Confucius Classroom at Cook Islands Campus achieved “Confucius Classroom of the Year” in 2017.
