From June 1st to 9th, the Confucius Classroom at USP Lautoka Campus held a series of activities, allowing campus staff and students to experience the Dragon Boat Festival customs and enhance their understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
It is a tradition of the Confucius Classroom to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with colleagues on campus and enjoy tea and zongzi. On June 1st, two teachers of the classroom provided various kinds of zongzi for the "Tea Party at the Staff House" that was held on every Tuesday. They introduced the process of making zongzi and the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival to the staff.
From June 2nd, the classroom held a one-week photo exhibition in the campus library, introducing the origin, customs, and related activities of the Dragon Boat Festival in detail and displaying some raw materials for making zongzi, such as glutinous rice, peanuts, red beans, etc. On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, two teachers prepared zongzi for students to taste.
In addition, the two teachers also introduced the relevant knowledge of the Dragon Boat Festival in their classes. For different teaching objects, the two teachers have different emphases when introducing the Dragon Boat Festival. For the college students in the credit class, in addition to introducing the origin and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, teacher Liu Liye focused on the dragon boat race during the Dragon Boat Festival. For the children class, teacher Li Yanmei focused on introducing the influence of the Dragon Boat Festival. She provided news about the Dragon Boat Festival in Malaysian Chinese communities for students to read. For the primary school students, Teacher Li Yanmei chose gesture dance to let them remember this traditional festival in a relaxed and happy way.
The launch of various activities allowed teachers and students of the USP Lautoka campus to understand traditional Chinese festivals and culture further. It enhanced the friendship between the Confucius Classroom and the campus.
