The Spring Festival Gala Calls for Entries | Chasing the Light, We Met; Towards the Light, We Stride. – Official Launch of the Program Collection for the 2025 Online Chinese Lunar New Year Gala of Confucius Institutes

Looking back, we met through “chasing the light,” experiencing together the charm of the Chinese language and the richness of diverse cultures. Looking ahead, we will continue to stride towards the light, moving steadily into a bright future. The 2025 Online Chinese Lunar New Year Gala of Confucius Institutes, with the theme of “light,” sincerely invites CIs worldwide to tell their stories of through language, showcase their splendor through art, and present a cultural audio-visual feast that highlights the harmonious exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures. Together, we will celebrate the Spring Festival that belongs to all members of the global Confucius Institute community!

 

I. Program Collection

1. Singing and Dancing Performances:
Includes singing, rap, dance, and instrumental performances. Programs can be selected based on the theme of the Gala or chosen from pieces in which your Institute excels.
Program Examples:

      · Picturesque Clothing

      · The Direction of Dreams

    2. Language Performances:

Includes crosstalk (Xiangsheng), skits, poetry recitals, etc. CIs can create performances based on amusing anecdotes from Chinese language teaching and learning, or use existing scripts to perform.

      · Funny Stories of Chinese Language

      · The Amusing Side of Learning Chinese

 

3. Other Performances:

Creative performances such as magic shows, opera, calligraphy demonstrations, and fashion shows are welcome. Innovative thinking in program types is encouraged to showcase artistic expressions unique to Confucius Institutes.

4. Collection of New Year’s Greetings:

We invite Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) worldwide to send their greetings and wishes for the new year, and extend their new year blessings to the global Confucius Institute community!

II. Event Schedule

1.Program Collection:From September 19th to December 20th, 2024, Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) worldwide are invited to submit their programs and New Year’s greetings for the Online Gala.

2. Premiere:
Premiere Date: January 29th, 2025 (the first day of the Chinese lunar new year)
Online Platform: The 2025 Online Chinese Lunar New Year Gala of Confucius Institutes will be premiered on the global portal website of the Confucius Institute: ci.cn.

3. Program Broadcasting (Long-term):
All submitted programs will be available for long-term playback on the Confucius Institute’s Wechat Channels, Douyin, Weibo, and the global portal website ci.cn, with opportunities to be featured on prominent media platforms like CCTV.com, Toutiao, and international media platforms.

III. Program Submission Requirements

1.Ensure the video is clear, filmed in landscape mode, and, if possible, use multi-camera angles. Video format should be mp4 only, with a 16:9 widescreen ratio. The preferred resolution is 4K, with a recommended quality of 1920×1080 or higher and a frame rate of at least 25 fps. Do not add watermarks or logos.

2.Participation is voluntary and should be organized at the level of Confucius Institutes (Classrooms).

3.Package the video and application form of each program into one compressed file, and name both the video and the file according to the format of “Confucius Institute (Classroom) name + program name + author name.”

4.Programs can be in any language, but must include Chinese and English subtitles. The maximum length for each program is 5 minutes (10 minutes for language performances), and the New Year greeting videos should not exceed 1 minute.

5.Programs must comply with the content guidelines of various online platforms and promote positive values.

6.Participation in the event grants the organizer the copyright to the work. The creator’s right of authorship will be respected and retained, but no additional remuneration will be provided.

7.The Chinese International Education Foundation reserves the right of final interpretation for this event.
