The Confucius Classroom at Mount Clear College was established in October 2009. The former Chinese partner school was Nanjing No. 1 Middle School, and the current cooperative institution is Qingdao University. The school is located in Ballarat, 110 kilometres from Melbourne, Australia, and about 8 kilometres from the city centre.The Confucius Classroom is located in the language center of the school. At present, there are 3 local Chinese teachers, and there are no teachers from China.
The school offers two elective courses in foreign languages: Chinese and Japanese. The number of Students Studying Chinese in each academic year is about 200.
At present, there are four schools supported by the Confucius Classroom: (1) Stawell Secondary School, which is also responsible for four local primary schools' Chinese teaching of about 400 students, has about 200 students learning Chinese per academic year, (2) Lal Lal Primary School: Chinese teaching is completely carried out by the Chinese teachers of the Confucius Classroom from China, and the number of students learning Chinese in each academic year is about 60. (3) Napoleons Primary School: Chinese teaching of about 80 students per academic yea is completely carried out by the Chinese teachers of the Confucius Classroom from China. (4) Ballarat Grammar School, which has about 120 students learning Chinese per academic year, is supported by the Confucius Classroom to undertake language and cultural events.
