Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia

On 26 July 2010, the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia (CIUNZA) was founded jointly by the Hebei University of Economics and Business (HUEB) and the University of Zambia (UNZA). Since its establishment, CIUNZA has been working hard. Based on UNZA and radiating to the whole country of Zambia, CIUNZA serves the friendly exchanges between China and Zambia while keeping its feet on the ground and climbing up the ladder. Through the successive endeavors of one batch of people from CIUNZA after another, CIUNZA has developed into a renowned Chinese language education institution in Zambia, even in the whole world. It plays an active role as a model leader and a driving force in the aspects of Chinese language teaching, teachers' training, development of teaching resources, China-Africa research, Sino-foreign cultural exchanges, etc., and was awarded the titles of "Advanced Confucius Institute" and "Global Model Confucius Institute".

Distinctive and Key Programs

      Participating in Local Business and Cultural Activities
      CIUNZA has become a regular partner of Zambia's International Trade Fair, as well as Zambia's Agricultural and Commercial Exhibitions and other business and cultural activities. CIUNZA also participates in various celebrations in Zambia to introduce Chinese language and display Chinese culture.
        Making Chinese Language Integrate into the Professional System of the University of Zambia and the Zambian National Education Curriculum
        In 2013, Chinese language was incorporated into the University of Zambia's professional system. The University of Zambia currently has two undergraduate programs in Chinese, namely Chinese Language and Literature and Chinese Language and International Education. At the same time, the University of Zambia has opened Chinese language teaching centers at Mulungushi University, Livingston LIBES College, NIPA and other institutions of higher learning to engage in Chinese language teaching. CIUNZA has become the most important Chinese language and culture center, Chinese teacher training center and Chinese proficiency testing center in Zambia. In 2014, one public school in each province of Zambia launched Chinese language teaching as a pilot project. At present, Chinese language has become one of the subjects in the national examination for grades 9 and 12 in Zambia, and the Chinese language program has entered the national education system and examination system.
