Confucius Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology at National University of Lesotho Successfully Holds the Departure Ceremony for Students of the 2025 Chinese Government Scholarship-Silk Road Program

On August 21, 2025, the Confucius Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology at National University of Lesotho held a grand departure ceremony for the students of the 2025 Chinese Government Scholarship-Silk Road Program. Eleven students from Lesotho would soon pursue further studies at Jilin Agricultural University in China. The ceremony was attended by Counselor Lu Hui from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Lesotho; Professor Olusola Isaac Fajana, Vice Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho; Deputy Vice Chancellor Kananelo Mosito; Registrar Liteboho Maqalika-Lerotholi; as well as more than 50 teachers and students from the Confucius Institute, who all gathered to witness this moment of great significance.

During the event, the scholarship recipients showcased their achievements in Chinese language learning at the Confucius Institute through speeches, poetry recitations, and other performances. They expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese Government, Jilin Agricultural University, Tonghua Normal University, and the Confucius Institute, while sharing their deep anticipation for the upcoming studies in China. 

Counselor Lu Hui personally presented admission letters to each student and extended warm congratulations. He encouraged them to cherish this valuable opportunity, study diligently, and become bridges of friendship and cooperation between China and Lesotho, contributing their youthful strength to cultural exchange and common development between the two nations.

In his speech, Professor Fajana, Vice Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho, highly commended the Confucius Institute for its remarkable achievements in Chinese language teaching and advancing educational cooperation between China and Lesotho. He urged the scholarship recipients to study hard, broaden their horizons, and upon their return, contribute both to national development and to the strengthening of Lesotho–China relations.

The ceremony concluded with a moving group performance of  "The Best Future", reflecting the students' optimism and strong confidence as they embark on their new journey.

This departure ceremony not only highlighted the continued support of the Chinese Government for the education sector in Lesotho, but also further consolidated the friendly cooperation between China and Lesotho in the fields of agricultural science, technology, and cultural exchange.
