Confucius Institute at National Higher Education and Research Institute (CI-NHERI) Confucius Institute at National Higher Education and Research Institute (CI-NHERI) was established in 2013, a joint effort of National Higher Education and Research Institute and Guizhou University of Finance and Economics (GUFE). Over a decade of joint effort, CI-NHERI has been developed into the largest language institute in Eritrea. CI-NHERI is located on campus of Asmara University. Since its establishment, CI-NHERI has been conducting Chinese language teaching of all levels in Asmara University and in local colleges and secondary schools. Its annual enrolment reaches about 1,500. In the meanwhile, it offers such cultural courses as Taiji, Wushu (martial arts), Chinese calligraphy, Chinese songs, Chinese dance, etc. CI-NHERI has cooperated with Chinese and local enterprises for vocational Chinese langauge program and has achieved remarkable progress. The Institute has continuously organized cultural activities of various kinds, attracting thousands of Eritrean people to join in every year. Its Chinese traditional festival celebrations, Chinese Bridge, and the celebration of Eritrean Independence Day, have been widely reported by the press. CI-NHERI has kept good terms with local government and non-government departments. Distinctive and Key Programs

China-Eritrea Friendship Association

China-Eritrea Friendship Association provides a platform for cultural communication and exchange between the two sides. Its participants are Eritrean Musical Association, Meras Dance Group, and Eritrean Chinese Alumni Association. The theme of these activities is “Promoting Understanding and Friendship through Cultural Activities”. The annual activities are lectures on Chinese and Eritrean language and culture, dances and song performances. The Association plays an important role in CI-NHERI major cultural activities and contributes greatly to promoting the people-to-people connection and friendship.
独立日庆祝活动 Independence Day Celebrations

Every year, May 24th is Eritrea's National Independence Day, and CI-NHERI organizes the Independence Day celebration together with the Commission of Culture and Sports(CCS)every year. Since its establishment in 2013, CI-NHERI has held a grand celebration of Eritrea's Independence Day every year, which mainly consists of Sino-Eritrean cultural performances, jointly performed by teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, showing a good spirit, enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between China and Eritrea, and jointly writing a chapter of friendship between China and Eritrea as a family. 中国风筝文化节 Chinese Kite Cultural Festival

From 2017 to 2022, the Chinese Kite Cultural Festival was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Eritrea, organized by Confucius Institute of National Higher Education and Research Institute(CI-NHERI) and co-organized by Commission of Culture and Sports(CCS), and successfully held in Asmara for four consecutive years. It has become an attractive brand activity of public diplomacy and has received great attention from the mainstream media in Eritrea.
