The Chinese Language Training Program for officials in the southern region of the Philippines is an attempt since the establishment of our Confucius Institute. It aims to provide Chinese language teaching to local officials from various departments of local governments, and to improve their professional skills as well as strengthening their understanding and acknowledgement of China. This is also an important area for our Confucius Institute to develop in the future. Up to now, we have opened two regional Chinese Language Training Programs for officials, and the results seem to be good so far. The Chinese Language Training Program for Officials of the Government of Davao de Oro, the Philippines was held on September 6, 2019. 26 participants attended the training. The training began in mid-September 2019 and ran through March 2020, then classes were suspended due to the pandemic. Classes resumed at the beginning of November with online delivery. At the end of December, a total of 19 participants completed all the studies and successfully finished the course. After the good results of the Chinese language course for officials of the the Government of Davao de Oro, our CI opened another Chinese language training program for officials of Davao City Hall in 2021. The online opening ceremony was held on May 14 and the whole program lasted for over 6 months.
