Kong Zi institute is a non-profit education provider network, which devotes itself in fulfilling the needs of people all over the world who wish to learn the Chinese language. Kong Zi’s main focus is to enhance the understanding and also strengthening the educational structures of this vast language. By mastering the Chinese language, it enables people to have a better chance at understanding the Chinese culture and promotes harmonious relations between China and other countries. The Kong Zi Institute at University of Malaya is part of the global CI network established by Hanban (Beijing) and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The official launch took place on the 1st of November 2009, which was officially launched by the Chinese vice Premier, Li Keqiang. Being the first Kong Zi Institute established in Malaysia, Li Keqiang noted this opening as another achievement of cultural and educational exchanges between China and Malaysia.

Distinctive and Key Programs

      Chinese + Professional Skills Training - Programs with Ministries under Malaysian Goverment
      In 2019, with the support of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, the KZIUM opened a total of two 10-week Chinese courses for the Anti-Money Laundering Investigation Team of the Royal Malaysian Police. 45 police officers participated in the course. In 2022, the Kong Zi Institute at the University of Malaya will once again offer Chinese courses for the Royal Malaysian Police Class. The course lasted 12 weeks, with a total of 24 hours of Chinese and Chinese culture courses, and a total of 33 police officers participated in the course. Since 2013, the Chinese publication review department under the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia has cooperated with the KZIUM to offer Chinese reading and translation courses, aiming to improve employees’ Chinese reading and translation skills.The next session is expected to start in the second half of 2022 and will involve 20 Home Ministry officials from all over Malaysia. The Immigration Short-term Chinese Class is a short-term intensive Chinese course jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, the Malaysian Immigration Department and the KZIUM aiming to help the customs officers of the immigration bureau communicate better with Chinese tourists, and promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. Since 2012, the KZIUM has cooperated with China Foreign Affairs University to offer Chinese elective courses, teaching basic Chinese comprehensive courses for the IDFR Diploma for Diplomats program
        Traning for Malaysian Local Teachers
        Since 2012, with the support of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the Kong Zi Institute at the University of Malaya has successively provided local Chinese primary and secondary school teachers in Malaysia, as well as college teachers who teach Chinese as a second language and Chinese teachers in international schools, including teaching methods and elements of teaching. , Orthophone, Chinese character teaching and other topics of teacher training. Before the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, the Kong Zi Institute at the University of Malaya mainly provided the above training by inviting Chinese teaching experts from China twice a year, and now it is mainly online training. The following is the local teacher training information in 2022: In order to support the professional development of overseas local Chinese teachers, this summer, the Kong Zi Institute at the University of Malaya will continue to cooperate with Beijing Foreign Studies University to organize a series of online training programs for local Chinese teachers.
